Why LolaBee's

A Few Reasons to Choose LolaBee's

Local Means Fresh: LolaBee’s products simply taste better. The produce in most grocery stores is harvested green and unripe, at least a week, sometimes two weeks before it even arrives at the store. Our products are harvested at their peak and arrive at your doorstep within a few days. When produce is allowed to ripen on the plant it bursts with flavor, holds more nutrients, and tastes the way real food is supposed to taste.

Support Your Neighbors: When you support local farmers and artisans you support your neighbors and your community. Smaller farmers and artisans compete against the big guys, but when we support them, we can help ensure they can stay in business and keep on providing the good stuff. With LolaBee’s your food dollars are reinvested into your local economy, not siphoned away to international food conglomerates and huge national food corporations. Local farmers are our neighbors, and supporting them feels good.

Happy, Healthy Animals: Before industrialized animal husbandry became a way of life, animals roamed freely, grazing and foraging on natural diets in the wild. Then, when we began domesticating animals, we raised animals in a way that mimicked nature, still allowing them to graze and forage. That was the way it was done for centuries, but these days, most of the industrialized world’s meat supply comes from animals raised in Confined Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO’s).  In CAFO’s, animals are confined to tiny cages or pens and fed diets of corn, soy, and often meat byproducts. The animals are kept in close quarters where disease can spread easily, and antibiotics are added to their food. To maximize profits, CAFO’s administer hormones, increasing the amount of meat, milk, or eggs each animal can produce.  These antibiotics and hormones end up in our bodies when we eat the animals, and contaminate our water supply when waste runoff from these mega-farms leaches into our waterways.

LolaBee’s meat, eggs, and dairy products never come from CAFO’s. Our pastured meat products come from cattle that roam and graze on open fields, pigs that forage, and chickens that run in pastures and peck at grubs, seeds, and grasses. LolaBee’s meat comes from animals that thrive on sunlight, fresh air, and high quality food, and are never given chemical additives of any type. They are cared for by farmers and ranchers who prioritize humane, responsible husbandry practices and raise animals the old-fashioned way. When these farmers care for the health and happiness of their animals, they care for the health of their customers too.

Sustain: Sustainability may be a buzzword, but we’re not in the business of greenwashing. Sustainability is a way of life at LolaBee’s.

  • Local: Food from LolaBee's isn’t carted all over the world before it reaches your kitchen table. It all comes from farmers within a 30–250 mile range of San Francisco.
  • Smart: We help customers eliminate trips to the store, saving fuel, vehicle emissions, and the high volume of packaging waste associated with grocery shopping. We deliver to highly concentrated groups of customers, using fuel wisely and cutting down the number of cars on the road.
  • Reusable: Our deliveries come in insulated boxes that we pick up from our customers and reuse each week. Unlike energy intensive paper and plastic grocery bags, our boxes can be used for a year or more. We also source our boxes from here in the United States, not overseas, just like our food.
  • Recycled: Our paper bags and liners are made from 100% recyclable material with 40% post-consumer recycled content. We print all of our marketing materials on recycled paper, using vegetable based inks without the harmful chemicals used in regular printing.

LolaBee’s doesn’t just talk about sustainability, we live it. If you have other suggestions for how we can improve our environmental responsibility, please let us know!
